Every year at Gena on the 7th of January, ten thousands of Pilgrims are coming into the holy city Lalibela, to celebrate and worship in unity, for several days, the birth of Jesus Christ, the coming of the Lord and the freeing of mankind from sin. Many pilgrims come on foot and some go on a pilgrimage for hundreds of kilometers over some days until they reach holy and remote Lalibela at the height of 2.800 meters in Lasta Mountains. „Saint Lalibela Youth Unity Association“ as a group of young ethiopian orthodox Christians is welcoming the pilgrims by arriving through the early christian tradition of washing their feet and serving a meal. This ceremoney and tradition is hold on 8 different places in Lalibela. ( in the video below of Gena 2016, the mercyful engaged group is to be seen in green and orange safty vests)The young Christians do not get any kind of financial support from the church or any other kind of institution to welcome the arriving pilgrims in this tradition. So therefore they are funding donations all year long ! Amount of donations is finally insufficient and „Hope for Ethiopia e.V.“ is giving support since 2016 to „Saint Lalibela Youth Unity Association“ in raising funds to finance the meal for the Welcome of the pilgrims at Lalibela.
Without your donations of last years this old, precious early christian tradition worthy of preservation would have gone lost in Lalibela, and the hungry pilgrims could not be welcomed through a needfull welcoming meal. At least one meal is half an Injeera with Shiro at the cost of 30 Cents and it would be actually great if 3.000 Pilgrims are having a Welcome in Lalibela at Gena 2019 on january the 7th. Therefore we need your support. Until end of december we will diligently raise funds. „Saint Lalibela Youth Unity Association“ counts on us and we do hope for donations from you- all giving is helpfull, even smallsmall !
